Recently on a "not great visit" to the QE in Birmingham I had time to visit the "Q" Gate at the old Rover works at Longbridge.

Shook me to the core!

Think I stood 10 minutes in silence trying to take in the magnitude of what had happened when I last saw it in January 2000!

All gone!

Reminded me of a "post apocalyptic" scenario!

All the parking places "still there" where I used to park, now a "forrest"

East works, 'Engine manufacturing" a housing estate!

Someone having dinner, or sleeping, where I once built engines!

SHOOK ME TO THE CORE!

Coming back from 2 weeks of sorting stuff out I found this episode a delight to listen to. Addressing 'history' and how it fits with the modern world was nicely explained and something but the councillors and officers of the various councils need to take on board

I for one agree that there should be some protection of at a minimum the gates and sentinel entrance but not knowing what is behind I have no thoughts there.

Loved yhe reference to Ironbridge where ut reminded me of a Jeremy Clarkson tv show where his ancestors who appeared to have created Kilner Jars and mass produced them got hit with a law suit over the smoke and grime it produced forcing them to close and move. So now - over a century later - we are having the same discussions but need to remember that what we have now is built on what was cutting edge before being identified as dangerous, antisocial and disadvantageous in the long term. Some of this history needs to be explained more clearly rather than just saying 'it is bad' or 'they were bad people'. [Separate thought are there similar discussions going on in cou tries such as Portugal, Spain, Germany, Holland as well as in the continent of Africa? I know not so ask the question.]

And hallelujah election free zone!

So.much in this episode of hey you that u could write for ever, and bore all to tears.

Nice one Jim a great distraction but informative and educational...now where have I heard that part phrase before...?

Thank you, Neil. I'm so glad you enjoyed this episode. Paul Belford had so many interesting things to say, and points to make. I'm sure he'll be on HY again in the future!
