'I write books because I want to help instigate change'
When Shropshire author Amy Beashel was seven years old, her primary school teacher described a story she’d written as ‘boring’.
Ever since, Amy’s been determined never to write anything boring again.
Amy’s new novel is called Bad Manners. It’s a fierce, gripping read that’s certain to stir up strong feelings.
Amy Beashel and I met to talk about her work over tea in Oswestry’s Booka bookshop, and you can hear our conversation in this episode of Hello You the Shropshire podcast.
Pre-order Amy Beashel’s Bad Manners from your bookshop of choice. Booka have signed copies!
Ladies-only Bad Manners launch dinner
Don’t miss the chance to be at the all-female dinner with Amy Beashel and Josie Long, celebrating the publication of Bad Manners & raising money for West Mercia Women's Aid!
Tickets are on sale now, but sales close on Monday March 10th, so rally your friend group and book tickets over the weekend?

What happened on Tuesday afternoon?
I set out to record an episode of Hello You on a bench in the Square in Shrewsbury.
I ended up shaking with fury, calming myself with a big pot of tea and a plate of pancakes in the Cat’s Pyjamas café.
What happened in between?
I met poet-mathematician Michael Carding, who was both wise and delightful.
And then two people come along who were very keen to talk to me. They were members of Shrewsbury’s Barnabas Church. That’s where it all went rather … well, listen for yourself.
Please listen right to the very end of the audio? You’ll hear pretty clearly how I was feeling.
There’s been a lot of response to this episode on social media, and in my inbox, too.
On the plus side …
… it jolted me into publishing two episodes of Hello You the Shropshire podcast a week! Henceforth, if the good Lord’s willin’ and the creek don’t rise, you’ll have something new to listen to every Wednesday and Friday. And on Sunday mornings, the Hello You Sunday Supplement - your weekly guide to good stuff to read - will glide elegantly into your inbox. As long as you’ve subscribed … so hit this button!
